Music of all genres and songwriters of all levels are welcome. It is
not necessary to bring a song to attend and hear what the panelists have
to say.
Songs must be submitted to
demos.sac@gmail.com in
MP3 format and are selected at random. Please bring
4 copies of your lyrics for the panelists, if you submit them we will print them. Your lyrics will be returned at the end of the night. Demo submissions
due by February 22nd!
A section is played for the entire group, followed by comments from the
panel on the relative merits of each song from both a craft and
business point of view.

Registration is open from 1:30pm to 2:30pm. Demo will not be accepted on the day of. 1 Submission per person!
The event is FREE to members. Please show your membership card at
registration. If you do not have a card, contact us and we'll have a
replacement one for you at registration.
Non-members can attend the event for $15.
About the Panelists
Jodie Ferneyhough - Has established the CCS Rights Management Company based in Toronto. The globally minded company is rooted in the stability and business discipline of music rights management while extending those skills into non-music IP, brand development and strategic management for content creators. CCS’ unique combination of music and non-music rights management, together with additional specific services, delivers tailor made strategy and attentive service to its partners and clients. Before founding CCS Rights Management, Jodie was Managing Director for Universal Music Publishing Group where he was instrumental in the careers of Sam Roberts, K-OS, Mobile, Hedley, Stephan Moccio and Alex Cuba and established Canadian superstars Tom Cochrane, Jann Arden, Shania Twain, Daniel Lavoie and Avril Lavigne. His artists have been nominated for or were awarded accolades from the Juno Awards, East Coast Music Awards, SOCAN Awards, Country Music Awards, Much Music Video Awards, Grammy Awards and Latin Grammy Awards. Before joining UMPG Jodie was the General Manager for peermusic Canada.
Jodie is President of the Canadian Music Publishers Association (CMPA), where he is active in lobbying, copyright reform and media relations. He sits on the Board of Directors of SOCAN and the CMRRA. He was named Canadian Music Publisher of the Year three out of four years at the annual CCMA awards, as well as Publisher of the Year at the annual CMW Industry Awards. He is a founding patron to the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame and is the co-founder of the Unison Benevolent Fund.
Emm Gryner is a Canadian pop/rock singer-songwriter with several albums to her credit. She won the Canadian Music Publisher’s Songwriting scholarship, the Mix 99.9 Songwriting Contest (now Radiostar) and has been nominated 3 times for a Juno Award (twice for Best Pop Album).
In Q Magazine, U2’s Bono named Emm’s song “Almighty Love” as one of 6 songs from the past 20 years that he wished he had written. Nelly Furtado named Emm’s album “Science Fair” as one of her desert island discs.
Emm has released 10 albums and runs her own label, Dead Daisy Records. She has performed around the world as a solo artist and has also sung in David Bowie’s and on recordings by Rob Zombie.
Emm made her film debut portraying Tracey in the film “One Week” starring Joshua Jackson. Emm was also the host of the CBC radio program “Under The Covers”.
Dan Hand, A&R Representative for Universal Music Canada & General Manager for Underground Operations. After starting in the summer of 2007 as an intern for Underground Operations, Dan quickly began climbing the ladder, getting involved with Tour Managing, Marketing & later, A&R. In March 2011, UMC built a new A&R team and brought Dan on as one of the newly appointed Representatives. In his career so far he has worked with the likes of: Abandon All Ships, Protest The Hero, Arkells, Silverstein, Lights, Down With Webster & many more…
