Maybe this World is Just Getting Old

We’ve always needed more to bring us happiness
But all that progress has really made a mess
There’s so many riches buried in the ground
Playing hide-and-seek but you know they will be found
Corporations they sure know how to play
Drill and cut and blast, take the hiding place away
Oil, gas and minerals won’t be there long
We all have a thirst and man that thirst is strong
Capitalism is running rampant now
It’s taken all the power and killed the sacred cow
And we let them have it ‘cause we want it too
Money’s only evil when it doesn’t belong to you
The animals that Noah took on that old boat
They can’t have a say ‘cause they still refuse to vote
And all that apathy of the plants in the ground
Where the hell are they when elections roll around?
The younger generation may think we’re really bad
But we can tell them all the fun that we had
Don’t listen if they say our generation was the worst
They may complain but we were here first
We’re so smart, conquered land and sea and sky
Mother Nature tried to fool us but we poked her in the eye
All the woodland creatures, they’re not as smart as us
But they’re not the ones turning everything to dust
Maybe this world is just getting old
Like a shoe with a hole in it’s sole
And we are just riding on a crashing plane
We look to our leaders but none of them are sane
Yeah maybe this world is just getting old
Maybe we’ve ripped, too many holes
We’ve always wanted more to bring us happiness
But the more that we take, we’ll end up with less
Maybe this world is just getting old
