Biography:
Alex James is a singer/songwriter from Toronto, Canada. Hailing from a diverse musical background that spans the gamut from rock to jazz to opera, his music inhabits the alternative genres, often being described as “urban folk”. His list of influences range from classic country songwriters like Kris Kristoffersen and Townes Van Zandt, to recent folk artists including Joe Purdy, Shawn Mullins and Damien Rice. James has played in bars and coffee houses for almost ten years, and considers himself foremost a storyteller. His sparse, rhythm-based guitar playing coupled with a unique vocal style brings life to songs inspired by lost love, burned-out bars and sleepless nights in the city he loves.
James has recorded three demos for the Songwriter's Association of Canada: Songs at 2:27a.m., The Yonge Street Sessions, and the Year Long Day EP, with a fourth currently in production.
