Biography:
As haunting and striking as the sculpted inlet of the Bay of Fundy, Amanda's voice has begun to garner attention in the online indie music scene. Voicing everything from dixieland jazz improv to alternative rock ballads to heart-baring original compositions. This authentic, multi-dimensional Canadian treasure mesmerizes listeners with her unconventional melodies and intuitive vocals.
"Ottawa-based folk singer-songwriter Amanda Cottreau blends haunting melodies with themes of love and redemption. Her tunes are wrought with internal conflict but always seem to offer some sort of resolution through self-awareness. While she cites Tori Amos, Sarah McLachlan and Sarah Harmer as influences, Cottreau has a voice all her own." ~ Collin Elliott, STEREOFAME ( Nov 02, 2010 ).
Over the years, Amanda has been refining her hauntingly beautiful brand of folk, elevating sadness to triumph and desolation to celebration. In 2009, she met and began collaborating with Ryan Potter, a seasoned Ottawa musician and closet producer. After almost two years of juggling work, motherhood and recording, Amanda finally birthed her first solo album "Universe in a Soft Sell" (NOV 2010).
In the last three years, Amanda has played over 175 shows between Toronto-Ottawa-Montreal-Halifax and has shared stages with: Tara Porter, Gabrielle Giguere, Sohayla Smith, Domestic Crisis Group, Musk Ox, Paper Mountains, Katey Morley, Meghan Tonjes, Mike Falzone, Sheree Plett, Jeremy Eisenhauer, Ophelia Syndrome, The Strip, Jason Paul Johnston, Terns, Natasha Pasternak, Lynzie Kent, Jayda, Brothers Through The Hill, The Powergoats, Ryan J.
