Biography:

Alberta Born Singer Songwriter. Stylings range from Acoutsic Folk to Bluegrass. Songs reflect a deep passion for Nature and contemporary issues about daily living and the human condition in the modern world.

Berna-Dean draws much of her songwriting fodder from personal experience. In both her quiet and active life, all forms of nature gazing are often central. One of her favourite activities is birdwatching and she often engages in such while sitting quietly in her own naturalized back yard or when hiking in local wilderness areas. Wildlife watching has not been limited to a pass time, however, as Berna-Dean also holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in the area of Animal Behaviour and through this worked professionally as a Naturalist, Zoo Keeper and then a Research Assistant for a three year study of the critically endangered Vancouver Island Marmot. Now spending much of her time writing songs and performing, Berna-Dean remains engaged in Wildlife Conservation initiatives through her volunteer affiliation to the Alberta Institute for Wildlife Conservation.

Also a Visual Artist- (working mostly in Chalk Pastel) Berna-Dean creates detailed illustrations of wildlife. The cover art of Berna-Dean's debut cd is an example of her work.

Released Debut Album "Fledgling" on April 8th, 2010. All 13 tracks are Berna-Dean's original songs.

Received "Best Performance" designation for her song "Black Gold" in the Beaver Tales category of the 2010 Calgary Folk Music Festival Songwriters Competition.

Alberta's winner for David Suzuki's Playlist for the Planet, September, 8th 2010
