Footprints (demo)

FOOTPRINTS
Music & Lyrics © Bob Reid 2010

Shadows growing longer
Darkness coming soon
Hope those clouds won’t
Cover up the moon

Never used to notice
Every passing day
But best laid plans don’t
Always work that way

Memories wash over me like
Like waves upon the shore
(And) leave a little smile on my face

But while we’ve still got some time
How ‘bout we make some more?
That’s all I wanna do
As long as I’m with you …

(HALF CHORUS)
Walk with me and hold my hand
We’ll leave our footprints in the sand
Grain by grain they slowly
Wash away

Does no good to wonder
Why you’re dealt your cards
A nine of spades can trump your
Ace of hearts

And savour every sandwich
Never rings so true
As the day when all your bills come due

Hoist your glass and celebrate
The hell we used to raise
Who’d have thought we’d make it half this far?

Drink the wine of closing time
Sing a song of praise
And wish upon a star
Heaven’s not that far

(CHORUS)
Walk with me and hold my hand
We’ll leave our footprints in the sand
Grain by grain they slowly
Wash away

One day this will only be
A photograph of you and me
But my heart will stay with you
Day by day

Memories wash over me
Like waves upon the shore
And leave a little smile on my face

But while we’ve still got some time
How ‘bout we make some more?
That’s all I wanna do
As long as I’m with you …

CHORUS

Heavy, Heavy Rain (demo)

Heavy, Heavy Rain
(c) Bob Reid 2011

Black clouds on the horizon
Whitecaps pounding the shore
A wicked wind howls and moans
Against my door

Tarps stretched tight on the rooftops
Everything loose nailed down
Not a single sheet of plywood
Left in this town

(CHORUS)
It’s a heavy, heavy rain
It’s a heavy, heavy rain
It’s a heavy, heavy rain
But it can’t wash me clean

Mudslides up in the canyon
Valleys getting flooded below
All this water and
No place for it to go

Some say God’s been offended
We’ve ignored Him too long
Too much blurring the lines
Between right and wrong

CHORUS X 2

Rationalize all the big black lies that you tell yourself
Draw your conclusions – I’ll draw a line in the sand
Rain hits the roof like the burden of proof does a guilty man
That’s what I am
That’s what I am

Rain, rain, go away
Don’t ya come back any other day
Don’t take my sunshine away
Rain, rain go away

Highway of Heroes

HIGHWAY OF HEROES

Music & Lyrics © Bob Reid 2008

Any time another falls
We will gather here

In any kind of weather

Any time of year

Watching for the headlights

Down the 401

Respect and dedication

For our bravest ones

Hearts fill with sorrow and with pride

As the fallen pass below, on the final ride

(CHORUS)

Along the Highway of Heroes we stand

In a show of gratitude, from right across the land

Standing on the bridges faithfully

Because you keep our true north strong and free

Soccer moms, firefighters

Legion members too

School kids and teachers

Folks like me and you

Standing at attention

With the maple leaf held high

A grassroots benediction

For the ones who died

You're all our daughters, all our sons

And you make us proud Canadians

CHORUS - LEAD BREAK

Along the Highway of Heroes we stand
Here to show the gratitude, from right across this land
Up here on the bridges we will be
Because you keep our true north strong and free

Now it’s our turn to stand

It’s our turn to stand

It’s our turn to stand on guard for thee

Soldier, Welcome Home

SOLDIER, WELCOME HOME
Music & Lyrics © Bob Reid 2010 SOCAN

It’s a special kind of man
And woman who understands
Freedom is a gift
But it’s not free

They’re the ones who sacrifice
Do the duty, pay the price
Of a safer world
And peace for you and me

Now they’re such a welcome sight for us to see …

CHORUS:
Welcome home
Welcome home
The battle’s all behind you
Welcome home

Though a half a world away
We’ve been behind you, every day
And with grateful hearts we’re so glad to say
Soldier, welcome home

VERSE 2:
Help elected leaders rule
Keep the children safe at school
Things we take for granted every day

But that’s the mission, that’s the call
And you answered, standing tall
In a distant land
You forged a better way

Now it feels so good to finally get to say …
CHORUS

Together we remember every fallen one
The heroes we think of every day
They laid down their lives beneath a blazing sun
Now among the stars they help to guide the way

It’s a special kind of man
And woman who understands
Freedom is a gift
But it ain’t free

They’re the ones who sacrificed
Did the duty, paid the price
Of a safer world
And peace for you and me

Heroes in our hearts you’ll always be …

CHORUS

Stand down, dismissed, rest easy now
Soldier, welcome home
