Something Sacred

Something Sacred music and lyrics Isabel Fryszberg
Arranged by Don Kerr, Steve Briggs and Isabel Fryszberg

Something sacred has been lost
Something tender has its cost
Try to sever what is real
Like it isn’t a big deal

Penalty will be tried
All the nights I have cried
Opened up my heart to you
You just do what you do

Selfish good and selfish bad
wear it like it’s just some fad
What was once tried and true
Spit it out and grab the new

Loneliness is your curse
Seeking sweetness is your nurse
Never stopping to reflect
Just another train wreck

I thought we’d plan a new start
We’d be together for a long time
You went back on your own
Estranged in your zone

Something sacred has its cost
Something tender has been lost
Get it back if you can
Grow up and be a man

Hide the truth from your eyes
Celebrate all your lies
Pretend you are wise.

Something sacred has been lost
Something tender has its cost

Isabel Fryszberg is a renaissance woman; a singer songwriter, documentary filmmaker, fiddle player, lover of applachian music and an occupational therapist. Based in Toronto, Isabel Fryszberg is a founding member of award winning klezmer-swing sextet, Sisters of Sheynville, and now Isabel makes her solo debut with the 2014 album Hearts and Arrows.
“Any of those 1960’s country pop singers could have had a major hit with this. Isabel? Absolutely. She nails it and she owns the hammer.” -No Depression, John Apice.

The album has garnered glowing reviews in music publications such as Cashbox Canada
Magazine, Canadian Music Week and in No Depression. Cuts from the album are currently
receiving radio and web play in Canada, United States, Australia and New Zealand

A definite highlight is the old-style jazz tune “New Moon”. Recently this song was chosen to be part of a city initiative, Toronto 311, which brings local artists to the 311 phone system. Isabel won the Newmarket Songwriters contest in February 2016 for her song 'Something Sacred.'

This year Isabel Fryszberg released a new album with the help of an Ontario Arts Council grant to record original songs with Don Kerr in collaboration with the members of the Creative Works Studio. Isabel founded Creative Works Studio in Toronto to help people with mental health and addiction issues find creative self expression through music and visual arts.
Isabel performs in Toronto with her band The Uncommons ( Steve Briggs, Don Kerr, Rosalyn Dennett) with the addition of new members, John Switzer bass and Rebecca Campbell for harmonies, as well as in a duo with the masterful and uncommonly good Tony Quarrington. Isabel and the Uncommons were a hit at the Winterfolk Festival, packed Hugh’s room for her CD release, engages audience wherever she performs and captured as one of the highlights at Folk Music Ontario 2015 by James Mcgee :
