Sweet Sweet Water
Copyright 2011 - Joe McLeod bowserhowitzer@yahoo.com

We never had a chance
Nodded or heads yes
I’d love to give all my gold
To the man on the ivory throne

He’ll crack down his whip
If he hears you talkin’
Rooster feet shaded eyes
Say keep on pickin’ that cotton

Chorus:
All I want is a glass of water
The sun strikes me down like the father
Who washes the blood from the soil
With that sweet sweet water
With that sweet sweet water

Hear the wind through the pines
Smell the change in the sky
Thunder loves electric light
We’ll never forget that night

I stole his baling twine
Four feet did just fine
Wrapped around his throat
As he fell off his ivory throne

Bridge:
The fear in his eyes
Knew as he lost his life, that

Chorus:
All I want is a glass of water
The sun strikes me down like the father
Who washes the blood from the soil
With that sweet sweet water
With that sweet sweet water

Dust Off The Needle
Copyright 2011 - Joe McLeod - bowserhowitzer@yahoo.com

Each of us have heard the golden rule
Each of us have done wrong
I can’t pretend to walk on water
Who will cast the first stone

We all slip up now and again
Like Johnny we walk the line
Reaching for that golden tambourine
God help me if it lands in my hands

CHORUS:
In your easy chair with a crackling fire
Sounds just like a record going round
This world keeps spinning, won’t you dust off the needle
This world keeps spinning, I can hear every sound

You’ll get paid back in spades for each ill turn
You may die before your time
So keep a clean heart don’t count other wrongs
Don’t be afraid to share a dime

CHORUS:

There may come a time we beg for bread
Fingers crossed I don’t that day
So keep lovers and friends by your side
Feel their warmth come your way

CHORUS:

The Perfect Crime
Copyright 2011 - Joe McLeod - bowserhowitzer@yahoo.com

When we met on the street your manner so discreet
While you whispered, your plan knocked me flat off my feet
Said you needed a stranger and you’d be willing to wager
I was born your accomplice and you were born no danger

You had someone on the inside there was no need to hide
With a bulletproof alibi we carried no disguise
We’d cross county lines and be free of our crimes
But I was blind to the fact that my heart was the prize

CHORUS:
You brought me the perfect crime
You said I’d be fine
The promise of gold and living the good life
I put it all on the line
But you stole my heart left me high and dry
You brought me the perfect crime

The security was sewn-up and the walls were blown up
There was no way our get-away plan would be shown up
Your get-rich-quick scheme was a sunshine daydream
Hand-in-hand high-stepping down easy street

But you didn’t leave a trace so I’m right back in the place
Looking for some evidence of the good old days
When we crossed county lines were free of our crimes
And I was blind to the fact that my heart was the prize

CHORUS:

BRIDGE:
Pink champagne diners on the outskirts of town
Bonnie and Clyde sunsets that never go down

CHORUS:
You brought me the perfect crime
You said I’d be fine
The promise of gold and living the good life
I put it all on the line
But you stole my heart left me high and dry
I was your perfect crime

Let My Thumb Ride the Wind
Copyright 2011 - Joe McLeod (bowserhowitzer@yahoo.com) & Tyler Rudolph (tylerdrudolph@gmail.com)

Summers were endless when I was a child
Four walls around me, but raised in the wild
My mother and father and grandparents too
The campfire danced to the song of the Manitou

Split rail fences smell cottonwood in the air
Running through fields and streams didn’t have a care
Fell in love at seventeen, I nearly hung my hat
But things went wrong, we moved on and never looked back

Chorus:
Let my thumb (soul) ride the wind
Live my life for what lies around the bend
Let my thumb (soul) ride the wind
Chasing the sun with my good time friends
Guitar

The promise of the city took me by surprise
The bright lights, the factories scraping the sky
Endless tomorrows with so much left in store
Each and every thrill I felt left me wanting more

But the lustre of my boot heals took on a different shine
Smoke stacks hide the sun cloud up my mind
The autumn leaves are falling, there’s a dampness in the air
So I move with the seasons when I’ve had my share

Chorus:

Bridge:
They say the grass is greener on the other side
When you’ve been around the block you take it all in stride
They say the grass is greener on the other side
For when you least expect it life can take you for a ride

Chorus

Country Radio
Copyright 2011 - Joe McLeod - bowserhowitzer@yahoo.com

She grew up in the country
Only the land to keep her alive
Daddy was a guitar picker
Mama knew how to survive

Her father showed her the chords
Sang her to sleep before bed
With Hank and George and Dolly
They planted those songs in her head

Chorus:
From the... Country Radio
When the... DJ’s on fire
Gave her... AM or FM
Get her... through the night

Passing days turned into years
Her parent’s health slipped away
Doctor’s orders Mama is ill
Bed-ridden on the same day

Her daughter sang on the Grand Ole Opry
While her Mama listens on
Squeezing down on her husband’s hand
The Opry plays their favorite songs

Chorus:

Bridge:
The angels play fiddles and steel guitars

Chorus:
