Back to Me

Verse 1:
I found myself somewhere in between
Who I thought I was and who I want to be
Wanting to be different, Wanting to change
Am I waiting, to stay the same?

Am I an actor, do I have a script?
Do I have any lines in this?
No role call to go to, no character to play
It’s hard to see yourself when you’re staring the wrong way

Prechorus:
Down, underneath, all the lessons learned in between
Who we are, where we lead, ourselves, our stories
Where they meet

Chorus:
I’m coming back to me
Who I’m meant to be
I lost myself a long the way
I’m coming back to me
Who I’m meant to be I lost myself along the way

Nah Nah Nah (sing along – hooky section)

Verse 2:
I want to know, what it’s like to see
The unknown side of you becoming complete
I’m a work in progress, it’s a remedy
To be patient when clearing the debris

Prechorus

Chorus

Musical Section / Bridge
I’m coming to me, who I’m meant to be
Lost myself along the way
I’m coming back to me, who I’m meant to be
Lost myself along the way
Coming back to me, who I’m meant to be
I lost myself along the way

Chorus

Logic

Verse 1:
She said tell me a story
Tell me something new
Not all the tall tales you always do
If you’re going to tell me something
Tell me the truth
Why did you never make a move?

Verse 2:
This was his rebuttal
It took a little time
Faith and love they complicate
It’s been on my mind
If I say anything more
Your heart just might break
But I gotta try to explain

Chorus:
Logic breaks my heart
Every single time
I wish it would stop
Logic breaks my heart
Every single time
It’s breaking hearts
Every single time
It’s breaking hearts

Verse 3:
She said tell me a story
Tell me something new
Why doesn’t your heart beat
The way I want it to?
He said there’s more to life
Than you and me
Where our hearts lead to eternity

Chorus

Bridge:
If we ain’t going and
If we ain’t going and
If we ain’t going
The same way

If we ain’t going and
We ain’t going and
We ain’t going
To the same place
But you should know

Chorus

New Avenues

Verse 1:
Have you been a good girl this year?
Have you been a good boy shedding no tears?
Or have your sins piled up, higher than the sky?
If I ask you will you just lie?

Or when I ask, will you tell the truth?
Will you know forgiveness for things you do?
Will you lie and say that you're a lost cause
That you're worth nothing at all

Chorus:
We gotta go
We gotta move
We gotta break everything to new avenues
Welcome to the New Year
Welcome to the New Year
Welcome to the New Year

Verse 2:
Will something new begin here?
Will life be more bright, a little bit more clear
Redemption comes at the cost of finding your faults
Admitting that you're human after all

Chorus:

Bridge:
Will you break through?
Will you break through?
Will you become new?
Will you become new?
Will you become new?

Instrumental

Chorus

Outro:
I will break through
I will break through
I will become new
I will become new
I will become new

[Lyrics]

No Choice

Verse 1:
I don't have to see, you physically
To know that you'll come around
I wonder where you are right now
How many feet? Lie between?
What it seems to me
Is that we couldn't be any farther apart

Pre-chorus:
I'll be the boy who can't sing but still tries
To plead for the girl that he can't deny

Chorus:
I got nothing to sing about
Until you come around
You left me with no choice

I got nothing to sing about
Until you come around
You left me with no choice

Verse 2:
Can you tell me, clearly,
Your location, where you are
What I wish upon a star
There may only be, these heart strings
Oh between, oh between, you and me

Pre-chorus:

Chorus

Bridge:
I don't know if these words
Fall on deaf ears
But I know, I’ll be here

I don't know if these words
Fall on deaf ears
But I know, I’ll be here
Oh I'll be here, oh I'll be here
Chorus

[Lyrics]

One Life

Verse 1:
Give me something to believe
Something to hold onto
When's there's adversity
When's there's strife
When life get's hard
I will show no disregard

Pre-chorus:
I won't sit around and wait to die
I'm gonna live my best life

Chorus:
I might be
I might be
A little bit crazy
Life's too short
Life's too short
To try and hide
I'd rather fail then to say I never tried
I only got one life
I only got one life

Verse 2:
Tell me, there's more than what I see
That there's opportunities,
To be bigger than just me
When they try to keep me on the ground,
I won't back off
I won't back down

Pre-chorus

Chorus

Biography:

Life’s a story for Berklee-accredited, GMA, and WCMA nominated pop rock singer songwriter Jonathan Li. Whether it’s his life, your life, or the lives of those you come into contact with, everyone’s got stories worth sharing.

In writing his sophomore effort, “Our Stories Matter”, Jonathan tapped into the talents of producers Jeff Dawson (Daniel Powter, Kelly Rowland, State of Shock) and Russell Broom (Jann Arden), to craft a soulful, groove-inspired pop rock album that explores the idea of life as a series of unfolding stories. Rich in composition and raw in emotion, the album is equal parts sensitive and complex, an authentic and refreshing reflection of the life experiences he’s worked to capture in every melody. This writing has been acknowledged by multiple songwriting contests including the Calgary Folk Festival, the North American NewSong contest and Unsigned Only.

A RAWLCO 10K20 grant recipient, Jonathan recently embarked on his first press tour across Western Canada, receiving media coverage from CityTV, CBC, CTV, and Global TV. Thanks to an overwhelmingly positive response, subsequent tours are shortly on the horizon with serious potential for national coverage.

Community is certainly important to Jonathan. Having previously partnered with Ronald McDonald House and War Child Canada and currently flexing his creative muscles for International Justice Mission, he uses his skills to help others and change the world around him for the better.

Over 150 shows, and two albums later, Jonathan and his band “the Joyful Noise” look forward to sharing his music online, locally and on the road.
