Influences:

Love the old soul divas and fellas who tell it like it is - Otis Redding, Sam Cooke, Donny Hathaway, and more. Sweet & sad jazz artists like Sarah Vaughan and Dinah Washington and all the fun, silly stuff in between.

Songs by Stacey Kaniuk

Let’s get high when the sun gets low
if you come my way won’t you let me know
See I’ve been checking you for sometime
And I can’t move on ‘til I make you mine
Don’t you worry it ain’t no thing
it’s just a boy-meets-girl-in-the-summertime fling
Don’t think about it, just let your body move

I’ve been sleeping with one eye open
Wishin' and hoping you might just walk in
It’s on, then I’m gone, You won’t see my face in the morning
Just come and get it ‘til you think you got it enough

Ain’t nobody fallin in love, love, love
Ain’t nobody fallin in love, love, love

How do you do that you got something
I can’t figure it out but you make me scream and shout
I’m in a mess and I’m in over my head - boy you just walked in and
and I lose my head
Ooh you know that I’m no good
I’m gonna wear you down like you knew I would
Don’t think about it, just let your body move

I’ve been sleeping with one eye open
Prayin’ and hoping you might just walk in
It’s on, then I’m gone, You won’t see my face in the morning
just come and get it ‘til you think you got it enough

There's so much loneliness, unhappiness and pain we can't avoid
Treat me right and I just might make you a happy boy

Just put your lips on my lips
Don't think twice or get uptight about it
You got just what I need and I can’t lie
I want to make it hard for you to breathe
I'm trying to get by with just a little bit of lovin' in my life
So come and get it 'til you think you got it enough

I've been sleeping with one eye open
Wishin' and hopin' you might just wanna walk in
It's on then I'm gone, You won't see my face in the morning
just come and get it 'til you think you got it enough

[Lyrics]

This old bar got a few things to hide
The dirt on the floor and that look in your eyes
I’m not afraid to walk in the rain sometimes
But this feels dangerous and I promised I’d be good tonight

Every time I let my hair down
always seem to break the rules
I’m not afraid of being myself, but
I’m afraid of what I’m gonna do…

Honey won’t you let me know
as far as kiss-and-telling goes
how I get your taste off my tongue
Oh boy, what have I done?

I’ve been trying to decide
Between the two sides of my mind
Part of me knows just where this will go from here
Other side is denying we crossed any lines, but boy it’s clear

Every time I let my hair down
always seem to break the rules
I’m not afraid of being myself, but
I’m afraid of what I’m gonna do…

Honey won’t you let me know
as far as kiss-and-telling goes
how I get your taste off my tongue
Oh boy… Oh boy

The idea in the moment’s like a bright and shiny penny
When I hold it up to morning light it’s only dull and dirty
I know why I don’t feel right
Take me to the river I’ll repent for all my sinning
believe me when I tell you I can be a better woman
I won’t lie - I can’t get the weight of it off of my mind

Every time I let my hair down
always seem to break the rules
I’m not afraid of being myself, but
I’m afraid of what I’m gonna do…

Honey won’t you let me know
as far as kiss-and-telling goes
how I get your taste off my tongue
Cuz I’m addicted to the thrill of it
let’s get it over with
and finish it before it’s begun
My mind is racing ‘round and ‘round
crazy how it all comes down to
thinking that it’s right when it’s wrong

Oh boy, what have I done?
What have I done?
What have I done?
What have I done?

Biography:

It’s been quite a rush for 26-year-old songbird Stacey Kaniuk, who’s music career flourished at age 22, when she was awarded a Gold record for her work with the harmony-driven pop trio Take Three, had two songs with the group reach No.1 on the charts, and by that time had already played some of Toronto’s most prestigious venues. Now working on her career as a solo artist, she’s ready to do it all over again. She has immersed herself in the art of songwriting while carving out her own niche in the Canadian singer/songwriter scene.

Classic soul and Rn’B has long been Stacey’s primary passion, but her list of inspirations and influences ranges from Liszt and Chopin through to James Brown, Donny Hathaway, Aretha Franklin, Dave Matthews and the Beatles. Stacey started writing at age 16, and her first recording experience came with “By All Means You,” an original song produced by Justin Hines when Stacey was in her first year at university. She states: “That’s when I fell in love with the studio experience and the whole recording process – the way it can really bring people together through the exchange of ideas. I realized that if you’re lucky enough to have the right studio, the right people, and the right environment, the experience can be amazing and so rewarding.”

While still at school, her prodigious vocal talent shone in Take Three, a pop/R&B vocal trio signed to Universal Music and dedicated to giving classic Christmas tunes a fresh twist. In fact, Stacey is the proud owner of a Gold record, thanks to their participation in the best-selling Canadian Christmas compilation (alongside the likes of Jann Arden, Ron Sexsmith and Barenaked Ladies). The group also released their own album, Home For Christmas, and two of its songs reached number one on the BDS AC charts.

Most recently, her desire to write great songs landed Stacey Kaniuk at Blair Packham and Rik Emmett’s weeklong songwriting workshop SongStudio, where she and Packham decided to creating a record that reflects Stacey’s passion for soul music, with the accessibility of a fresh pop feel. Describing her style as “sophisticated, yet not slick” Blair Packham agrees that “Stacey Kaniuk is a very strong performer with a knack for writing a great hook." The upcoming album is slated for release on April 26 2011!
