Songs by Beth Hamilton

VERSE 1
I’ve been keeping secrets in a box beside the bed
The ghosts of all these memories fill the space inside my head
But the skeletons I’ve locked up are now rattling their chains
And the voice that I had buried is now calling out my name

PRE-CHORUS
I will sing out and I will dance

CHORUS
In the here and now, I will live out loud
In the here and now
In the here and now, I will live out loud
In the here and now

VERSE 2
I will sink my teeth into the sweetness of the day
Strip down to the naked truth, go dancing in the rain
Stretch my arms up to the sky, feel the world around me spin
Drive until the tank runs dry then do it all again

PRE-CHORUS
With heart wide open, it’s my time

CHORUS
In the here and now, I will live out loud
In the here and now
In the here and now, I will live out loud
In the here and now

BRIDGE
Fall down, rise up
And brush the dust off
Chase the sun down to the sea
Breathe in, breathe out
And fill my heart with every wondrous dream

CHORUS
In the here and now, I will live out loud
In the here and now
In the here and now, I will live out loud
In the here and now

Biography:

The terrain of Beth Hamilton’s musical imagination is as vast and varied as the landscape of where she resides, Owen Sound, Ontario. Beth is one half of the singer-songwriter duo Beckon, an intriguing blend of roots, folk and pop sensibilities, rapidly gaining recognition for their captivating original music and stunning harmonies. Beth has deeply immersed herself in music, making a living as a music educator, music director, and music therapist.

Beth’s musical training began early as she first studied piano at the age of five. Raised in a musical family, Beth studied piano throughout her school years, completing her Grade 10 Piano with the Royal Conservatory of Music. Beth continued her musical studies at Wilfrid Laurier University, receiving piano instruction from notables such as Dr. Leslie Wyber and Dr. James Parker. She graduated with Honours attaining a Bachelor of Music Therapy degree.

Beth’s love for music and making a difference in people’s lives led to her career in music therapy, working in both palliative care and long term care. She served on the Board of Directors for the Canadian Association for Music Therapy for three years, providing strong leadership in organizing and running publicity campaigns. Since her teen years, Beth has been teaching music and piano to students of all ages and abilities. Currently, Beth has a thriving piano studio of 50 students. Beth is the director of two children’s choirs in Wiarton, ON for children ages 5 to 11 years. She is also music director at a church in Durham, ON.

Music has been Beth’s travelling companion throughout her life. In 2008, her musical interests took an unexpected turn when she met friend and Singer/Songwriter Connie Rossitter. Beth became inspired to explore her own voice through songwriting and performing. Together the two musicians formed the duo Beckon, a powerful team of skill, artistry, and drive who perform and write songs with a passionate desire to hone their craft. Beckon has since performed original music at every imaginable venue from farmers’ markets to concert halls and have developed an enthusiastic following. These engaging live performances have culminated in a recent Owen Sound Cultural Award Nomination for Beckon.

In the summer of 2010 Beckon began working with CCMA award-winning producer Rick Hutt in the pursuit of creating their first album and launching their careers as singer-songwriters. The time has come to move from being music performers to recording artists, and Beckon has taken the same unwavering, determined approach to writing and recording that has gained them respect and accolades from their live performances.
