Notice to Songwriters, Publishers and Record Companies

If you are a songwriter or publisher of a musical work or a record company please read this notice as you may be eligible to receive private copying royalties. These royalties are paid to music rights holders by SODRAC, CMRRA, SOCAN, SOPROQ and AVLA for the private copying of music in Canada. The Copyright Board of Canada has published regulations setting the timeframe for the submission of claims by unrepresented music rights holders.  For authors and publishers, claims for the years 2000 to 2004 must be submitted before December 31, 2013.  For record companies, claims for the years 2000 to 2007 must be submitted before December 31, 2013. In order to provide rights holders with additional time to submit their claims, and notwithstanding the Copyright Board’s regulations, the timeframe for submitting claims for author and publisher claims for the years 2000 to 2004 and for claims from record companies for the years 2000 to 2007, will be extended to February 28, 2014.

Please note that if you are a member of one of the collectives listed above you do not have to take any action as any claim you may have will be processed by your collective.
